PROGRAM CONTENT

The 15-Day Course Program (with additional 7 Optional days) offers:
Daily classes in Orff Afrique (Orff-Schulwerk and indigenous Ghanaian/West African pedagogy); West African/Ghanaian traditional and contemporary children games and vocal music/songs; traditional drumming, dancing, xylophone, & storytelling.
Ewe traditional welcome ceremony by the chiefs and elders.
Distinguished lectures on music education, ethnomusicology & dance ethnology in Ghana; West African rhythm, choral/vocal music, and Ghanaian culture (belief systems, history, languages).
Special performances of traditional music and dance (children, adults, amateur and professional groups),
Special lecture-demonstrations on Ghanaian-Ewe kente weaving, traditional food processing, their histories and cultural significance.
Field Trips to nearby traditional villages, traditional/cultural ceremonies, and sights of interest
NunyaFest: A Nunya Academy organized and led children and youth music and dance festivals.
Traditional cooking classes
Visit to local market on market days
Interactions and performances with students from Nunya Music Academy and local artists.
PRE-REQUISITES
WHO WOULD ENJOY THIS COURSE
Although this course is originally and primarily designed for Orff Schulwerk Teachers as a Post-Level III Orff Certification or its equivalent in Orff-Schulwerk we are open to considering applications from anyone within the following categories.
Orff-Schulwerk Teachers
Educators (K-12 and collegiate levels) of the performing, creative, and visual arts; cultural studies, history, and religion
K-12 and collegiate level teachers in the arts (performing, creative, and visual arts); history, cultural, social and religious studies.
Early Childhood educators.
General educators with a background or interest in the arts of West African cultures
Professionals and students in the fields of percussion, ethnomusicology, dance/movement, and performance practice
Enthusiasts of world music drumming, dancing, percussion, children’s games
West African/Ghanaian music, dance, rhythm and cultural enthusiasts
Music Therapists
Multicultural music educators and advocates
Anyone interested in West African indigenous knowledge
ELIGIBILITY
Enrollment is open to all worldwide. You do not need to be enrolled at any college or university to participate in this study program.
